In 2021, the Holy Father Pope Francis invited the global Catholic Church into a journey of faith called the Synod on Synodality. In that Holy Spirit-led initiative, Catholic around the world reflected on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission: “It is precisely this path of synodality which God expects of the Church of the third millennium.”
The Synod on Synodality began with a solemn opening session in Rome on October 9 and 10, 2021. All the dioceses of the world followed suit the following week on October 17. The synodal process concluded in 2023.
Here in the Diocese of Shreveport, we hosted listening sessions at all parishes and missions. Then, Bishop Francis Malone gathered information from the listening sessions and sent the findings to the USCCB and then to Rome. What an opportunity that was, to voice ideas about the Church and to be part of the synodal process!
Our mutual goal was to renew and restore our capacity to love and listen. Here at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, all are warmly welcomed to unite as Christ's faithful in the global Catholic Church.

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.
